Big Data helping The Cheesecake Factory identify supply quality

IBM uses ‘big data’ tech to keep track of your meatballs

The Cheesecake Factory is using Big Data technology via IBM to identify potential links among its restaurants and supply chain that may signal a bad batch or tainted ingredients, such as the current case with IKEA and their horse-tainted meatballs. By analyzing big data sets from its 175 locations in the U.S., the restaurant may be able to predict a bad batch by marking certain triggers, such as if a supplier's product cost. If such a trigger is set off, e.g. that supplier's product is cheaper than usual, the restaurant chain is able to pull the product before it makes it to a kitchen. By finding these tainted batches sooner, the company will be able to save in recall and litigation costs and protect their consumers. Check it out!
